flippin’ cute

The original idea

As an arty mom, I was always proposing a never-ending series of arts and crafts projects in my daughter's pre-K class, and when career day came around, I wanted to introduce the kids to animation without adding to their screen time. Ms. Tse, their teacher, said that the December curriculum was focused on trees, so the idea for my first flipbook was created.

Annnd the kids really loved them. It was a hit! The adults admired how creative they were. Most importantly, I began to feel the joy that brought me to animation in the first place.

Expanding the idea

The most popular item in our household is unicorns, whether it’s toys or stickers or drawings, so I naturally I tested out a unicorn with a rainbow and sparkles.

Next up in this series: race cars, rocket ships, ballerinas and dinosaurs!

happy birthday

Then, I found out one of the classmates didn’t get a flipbook, and since his birthday was coming up, I wanted to make it up to him.

I also learned a better way to bind it together and to add a page on the back.

ok, and…

Then I realized, why don’t we celebrate more languages? My daughter went to a French immersion school with the best teachers! Why stop here? Chinese and Spanish versions are on deck.

BTW mom & dad

I love you! Thank you for supporting me you forever and ever and ever. Your tough love made me who I am today!

So of course, I’ll do a set with “I love you”, the perennial favorite, “You go, girl”, and of course “Stay gold, Ponyboy”… with gold foil.

can we ever get enough positive affirmations?

Not really. Can we get enough gold and glitter. Nope. There can never be enough.

Can we get enough gold and glitter?

Nope. There can never be enough.

what’s next?

Stay tuned. I think I’ll take an official class at the Center for Book Arts on soft binding next.

And I have so many more ideas in the pipeline!
